On May 5, City Year Boston hosted its first Red Jacket Society Family Service Day. Over 40 Red Jacket Society members and friends of City Year Boston served alongside City Year AmeriCorps members and local students at English High School in Jamaica Plain.
City Year Washington, DC Spring Gala
On May 4, City Year Washington, DC hosted its 15th Idealist gala honoring President of American University, Sylvia Burwell. More than 400 guests came together to celebrate the service and impact of DC's 189 AmeriCorps members.

On April 28, City Year Los Angeles hosted its annual Spring Break: Destination Education event bringing together a star-studded crowd for a high-energy night of musical performances, food and games.
City Year Chicago Ripples of Hope awards dinner
On April 4, City Year Chicago hosted it 19th Annual Ripples of Hope Awards Dinner. Nearly 600 attendees came together to honor Jennifer, Heather and Robin Steans. First Lady of Chicago Amy Rule and Andrew Hauptman, Chairman of Andell Inc. and Chicago Fire Soccer Club served as dinner co-chairs.
City Year Cleveland Red Jacket Society Event
On February 7, Anne and Jim Schoff hosted City Year Cleveland's first Red Jacket Society cultivation event at the Cleveland Skating Club. RJS Co-Chair Anne Schoff and her husband Jim invited their friends to join them for an evening of conversation with AmeriCorps members to learn about City Year Cleveland and what it means to be a Red Jacket Society member.
Chicago Red Jacket Society Event with Mayor Rahm Emanuel
On January 29, City Year Chicago’s Red Jacket Society Chair, Ravin Gandhi opened the doors of his home to host a platinum level event to both raise awareness of City Year Chicago’s demonstrative impact with potential donors and cultivate the relationship with our existing champions. The highlight of the night was guests hearing from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel on why he believes in the power of City Year’s Work with our students in addressing the early warning indicators for dropping out of school as City Year Chicago has been a key partner in increasing the freshman on-track rate at 26 schools. “Demographics should NOT determine destiny. I’m not telling you to replace what the public sector should be contributing, we are asking you to join us because we are all in.” Guests were moved by the powerful remarks of two partner principals who shared compelling data of how through the City Year partnership Sullivan High School went from 60% to 90% freshman on-track rate and how Piccolo Elementary School went from being a level 2 quality rating to the highest rating of 1+. The evening was a testament to the hard work City Year Chicago has done for nearly 25 years, and the strong reputation and trust developed during that time.
Jacksonville Red Jacket Society Dedication Event
In December 2017, City Year Jacksonville hosted its inaugural Red Jacket Society Jacket Dedication at the home of RJS Chair Michael Ward and Jennifer Glock. More than 30 Red Jacket Society members and board members attended the event along with special guest, City Year national trustee and CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), Wendy Spencer.
3rd Annual Red Jacket Society Leadership Conference
On November 14-15, RJS volunteer leaders from around the country traveled to Boston for City Year's Third Annual Red Jacket Society Leadership Conference. The conference was a unique opportunity for volunteer leaders to learn more about City Year's impact and growth, hear from leaders in the philanthropic and service communities, and share best practices with their counterparts from various City Year sites. The conference opened with a welcome reception hosted by Bain Capital followed by a full-day of conference sessions and discussion. Key external speakers included Massachusetts History Teacher of the Year, Kevin Dua '10, '11; Chief of Education for the City of Boston, Rahn Dorsey '90; President-in-Residence at Harvard Graduate School of Education, Mark Gearan; and Bridgespan Partner, Chris Addy. The conference closed with volunteers joining together for a powerful Red Jacket Dedication ceremony hosted by Sandy and Paul Edgerley.
City Year PROVIDENCE RED JACKET NIGHT
On June 8, 2017, City Year Providence celebrated champions during their Red Jacket Night. AmeriCorps Members serving with the newest Providence Team - the Bain Capital Team at Central High School - shared stories from their year of service with Red Jacket Society Members, school partners and elected officials.
City Year Boston Starry Night 2017
On May 25, 2017, City Year Boston hosted its Annual Dinner, Starry Night. Over 550 community leaders came together to celebrate a shared commitment to building community in Boston. The event kicked off with a special Red Jacket Society Tailgate Party to toast Boston's Red Jacket Society members. Over $1.8 million was raised for City Year's work with Boston Public Schools, including $201,000 pledged the night of and 3 new members of City Year Boston's Red Jacket Society!

On May 24, 2017, members of City Year Chicago's Red Jacket Society enjoyed a private reception hosted by Bain Capital as part of City Year Chicago's 18th Annual Ripples of Hope Awards Dinner.
City Year Washington, DC Cocktails and Conversation Event
On May 20, 2017, City Year DC friend and supporter, Liddy Manson hosted over 35 guests for an evening of cocktails and conversation. Guests listened to remarks by Liddy, AmeriCorps member Sahand Yazdanyar and Executive Director, Jeff Franco.
City Year Cleveland 2017 Rock the Red Jacket Gala
On May 13, 2017, City Year Cleveland hosted its first-ever Red Jacket Society ceremony, at its annual Rock the Red Jacket Gala. This was part of the site's 20th anniversary year celebration. Five of ten RJS members attended the reception and dedicated their red jackets in a meaningful ceremony. City Year Cleveland Executive Director Toi Comer led the ceremony, assisted by AmeriCorps members Daisha Perry, Danielle Clark, Collin Huth, Karimah Williams and Chelsea Cross.
City Year Milwaukee's First Annual Red Jacket Society Dedication Ceremony
On May 11, 2017, City Year Milwaukee hosted its first Red Jacket Society Dedication Ceremony at the Historic Pritzlaff Building in Milwaukee's Third Ward. Over 40 guests attended the reception to witness four Red Jacket Society Members dedicate their jackets. The ceremony was led by Red Jacket Society AmeriCorps Ambassadors and took place prior to City Year Milwaukee's 6th Annual Dinner.
City Year Detroit Red Jacket Gala
On May 11, 2017, City Year Detroit hosted its Red Jacket Gala at the Grand Riverview Ballroom in Cobo Center. Over 600 champions joined for the largest Gala in City Year Detroit history as they honored Matthew Simoncini, President, and CEO of Lear Corporation, with a red jacket and City Year’s Idealist in Action Award.
Kansas City CommunityAmerica Credit Union Press Conference
On May 9, 2017, Lisa Ginter, CEO of CommunityAmerica Credit Union, held a press conference at Arrowhead Stadium to announce their official banking partnership with the Kansas City Chiefs and to highlight their community work with City Year Kansas City. At the event, Ms. Ginter was surprised with her very own City Year Jacket in recognition of her becoming a new Red Jacket Society Volunteer Chair.
City Year New Hampshire Starry Starry Night 2017
On Saturday, April 15, 2017 City Year New Hampshire hosted their Starry Starry Night annual gala at the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel in New Castle, New Hampshire. Nearly 300 community leaders and political officials attended the black tie event where City Year New Hampshire Board Member and RJS member Kim Army received her Red Jacket.
City Year Columbus Red Jacket Ball
On April 8, 2017, City Year Columbus hosted its annual Red Jacket Ball. Three new RJS members, Tanya Crawford, Bill Calvert, and Donald Brown received red jackets at the event.
2nd Annual Red Jacket Society Leadership Conference
The 2nd Annual Red Jacket Society Leadership Conference was hosted in Boston on November 14 & 15, 2016. The conference kicked-off with a welcome reception at Bain Capital followed by a day of learning, best practice sharing, and inspiration. Volunteer leaders from around the country heard from speakers including Boston Superintendent Tommy Chang, Former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis, Harvard Basketball Coach Tommy Amaker and Vice President of Development at Harvard, Tamara Rogers. The conference closed with national leaders and local Boston RJS members joining together for a powerful Red Jacket Dedication ceremony hosted by Sandy and Paul Edgerley.
City Year Chicago Red Jacket Dedication Ceremony
On September 8, 2016 a dozen Red Jacket Society members participated in City Year Chicago's second annual Red Jacket Society Dedication Ceremony hosted at City Year Chicago's Center for Idealism. New members were presented with personalized red jackets before John Gilligan, City Year Chicago's Site Board and Red Jacket Society Chair led AmeriCorps members and guests in a jacket dedication exercise. Afterward, Red Jacket Society members joined the full Corps for Opening Day.
